in vain.

       i am trying hard
  not to fall for

       the diamonds 
 in your eyes
           or your
  white-tipped fingers
who paint the stars
    onto a canvas
  of s k y

  i do not want to notice
       the crinkle in your brow
  when you're nervous
    or how many times
 you bite your lip
      {it's 27 last time i counted}

 but i fear that all this trying
       is in vain,
   for if i wasn't falling for you
this poem wouldn't exist
